Petite Mixed Media Books

Creating with paper
planning out each page
antique French book pages
heading to destruction
saved by art
this petite book project
forced me into more organizing
paper, scraps, ephemera
all organized now
quietly creating
available in my shop
people often ask me
where did I get my blog name?
the truth is,
it was easy
I have a French friend in Chicago,
who spoke French to me,
gifted me with family laces & fabrics
She brought Pastis to our book club meeting
introduced us all to her culture
what is not to like?
back then I was always dreaming of a trip to France
I incorporated a little bit of France in my life
many many years later
when Google announced
Blogger was free, I was in!
my co-worker in her office across from mine,
hey Rhonda, Blogger is free,
me, awesome, what should I name my blog,
A Little Bit French?

-the rest is history-

  1. Thank you for sharing your story - now my imagination is spinning. The laces and fabrics combined with books. Your Petite Mixed Media books are beautiful. I would love to see your stash of paper, ephemera and bits. I bet they are amazing and as inspirational as your books themselves.

  2. Oh Rhonda, there is so much to comment about here. You and I both, intrigued by the French language and culture. I taught myself French at 34 while working full-time, went back to night school to start my studies, ended up spending 17 years obtaining my B.A. in French, a Master's in K-12 and two teaching licenses. I'm entering my 16th year of teaching. But my art as well began with paper, and I even attempted to paste family photos into a book, a project I left sitting. There is SO much fun to be had in the arts, and your work is so inspiring. Every bit of paper you weave together into a story is lovingly hand-picked and magnificent. J'ADORE!!!!

  3. I love your blog name and love that you share your love of all things french. Your creative abilities are amazing and I always love what treasures you make. Glad I found you to be a sweet blogging friend.

I hope you found some inspiration today.
